“THE WAVES”- 2004
To create this piece, Claudio Bernardo had several sources of inspiration: The music of Antonio Carlos Jobim, one of the main leader of Bossa Nova, the famous composition of Claude Debussy “La Mer” and the book “ The Waves” written by Virgina Wolf. The influence of the music of the French Impressionists, and in particular the compositions by Debussy are rather important, even deciding in the work of Jobim. The dance, here, winding, nonchalant and geometric, reveals many links between these two composers (Debussy/Jobim) and the writer (Wolf). This piece has the taste of a journey on the open sea.
Using samples of emblematic music, this performance is also a tribute to the movie and choreography movements of the “Nouvelles Vagues” that still mark our times and minds.
