Off Key has intimate ties to Claudio Bernardo’s Brazilian roots. It is a tribute to Antonio Carlos Jobim, whose name is synonymous with Bossa Nova, that emblematic musical movement born from the attempts to move Beyond the musical styles prevalent in Brazil in the 1950s. This solo piece takes its lead from the song Desafinado (« off key »), which ironically portrays the musings of a singer who sings off key. Claudio Bernardo combines dance, music, and video images that he himself recorded during his trip to Brazil
